[livejournal.com profile] cattitude and I spent a little while watching swallows in the park after lunch; the first I've seen this year, and swooping low, back and forth. I saw the red on the underside of the wings once, and the yellow a few times. We went on when the insects that were attracting the swallows found us.

On my way home Friday, I saw the season's first fireflies (one at a time, a total of four in a few blocks' walk in the park), and called Cattitude to come downstairs and see them.

Strawberries, of course. The privet is in bloom, as is lots of clover.

And it's annoyingly hot and humid.

Few young birds: the plants are running early, but the ducks and geese don't seem to be. I have seen two goslings and one duckling so far. And some of the starlings today might have been fledglings.

Because of [personal profile] centuryplant's post, yesterday we went looking for dragonflies. I saw a few, but not close up.

[I have OS install stuff to do, oh frabjous day!]
I have installed Windows 7 on my home machine. Thus far, I have F-Secure (anti-virus and security), Firefox, and Gaim running. I'm working on a beta version of Eudora 8 for my email; if that doesn't want to pull in the old files, I'll see if I can make Eudora 7 work, or try thunderbird. (I can read email via the web, but all my saved files are in the old Eudora.)

For those of you who were wondering about a replacement for Eudora, this new version is over at mozilla.org and seems (from a quick skim) to be using the Thunderbird engine. And it is a beta. I will report back if anything interesting happens.

There is, obviously, quite a bit to be done here, and I suspect I'm going to be spending a lot of time thinking "now what was that called?"

ETA: I appear to have an email program.

I didn't read carefully enough; yes, Win7 supports a version of PalmOS, but that version won't support my m515. And I went ahead and overwrote everything, instead of doing some complicated dual boot system.

I think that leaves me choosing between a smart phone and an Ipad. And running off just the portable for a little while: synching is valuable, but doesn't need to be daily.

Thoughts are welcome. Lighter is better.
