I got here with no trouble yesterday, or at least no external trouble: more than the usual amount of travel fret, slept badly both Wednesday night before travel and last night here in Madison, but have had some pleasant conversations with far-flung friends (as well as the inevitable meeting, while waiting for the airport shuttle, with someone who lives near me and I haven't seen in over a year--hi, Piglet!). Am typing this on an eee; it is a computer, but I miss my desktop machine with a proper mouse and no tendency for the focus to jump randomly to different lines while I'm typing. So, expect intermittent presence until Monday.
ROOO reading was good: Geoff Ryman was his usual upbeat self, Ellen Klages read a very sweet short story, and they explained how we could tell them apart. Geoff: "I'm funnier than Ellen" (audience laughs) and, later, Ellen: "I'm the homosexual."
Yes, very much a first-world problem, and one for which longitudinal thinking helps: I used to send email on a dumb terminal via a 2400-baud modem. So, breakfast, a bit of shopping (for exciting things like soap, and maybe look at clothes if things are open once I've eaten). And a lunch date with
oursin; I hope I will be more alert than when I ran into her and
truepenny yesterday.
DW crossposting may not happen this weekend, btw.
