My company has a new CEO. They were introduced to us this morning (shortly after an email saying that a CEO had been hired, here's the person's name and some relevant background), and said plausible things about the company and optimism for its future. The CEO will be at our office part time for the next ten days while finishing up some previous project or obligation, then full-time as of the 19th (which means the 20th, the 19th being a holiday). No announcements are being made until then, which is why I'm eliding all identifying details. I am sure I have never met this person before, and am trying to figure out why their name seems vaguely familiar. (If I don't figure it out, possibly with google's help, and am still wondering on the 20th, I may ask you-all if it rings any bells, including of the "that's the name of the actor who played the Third Murderer in Thurber's production of Macbeth" sort of bell.)

It took me half an hour on the phone yesterday, and a straightforward "if I have to buy a new phone anyway, I see no reason not to look for a new carrier," but I convinced Virginmobile to send me a replacement for my cell phone, which has taken to randomly turning itself off, sometimes more than once in a day. (Removing and replacing the battery reboots it, but of course not knowing it's off I don't turn it back on, so could miss calls.) The replacement phone has arrived, and is now charging, after which I will do the "move my service to new hardware" thing and send this one back.

After work, I went to the gym. It was a bit more crowded than usual by the time I was done, though not when I arrived: unsurprising for the first Tuesday of a year. numbers )
