redbird: close-up of a smiling woman wearing a hat (hay)

With the help of a knowledgeable and attentive salesperson, I now have a pair of Levi's 505 jeans, size 36/30. They don't come shorter than 30, so I will have to have them shortened (this is straightforward).

I tried a 38/30 first, because rounding up seemed more likely to work than rounding down, but that was too big and the 36 fits.

I have also established that Levi's 501s are not comfortable for me: the rise is too short, making them uncomfortably snug in the crotch.

I need more pants, including some in black (505s come in two colors, dark blue and light blue); any further suggestions based on knowing that a Levi's 505 is a reasonable fit for me would be welcome.

I'm going to pursue [livejournal.com profile] jesse_the_k's suggestion of the Carhart's made for dairy farmers, as well.

redbird: me with purple hair (purple)

Not having been to the gym in several days, I decided to go this morning, and hope that once I was downtown and exercised, I would also have the initiative to shop for clothes. This was a qualified success: I found one style that fit in the second store, and then went home, rather than wandering further. I know from experience that I will reach a point where nothing seems right if I wear myself out shopping (this is not limited to clothing).

I had forgotten how much I enjoyed going to the gym when it's not crowded. I did that a fair amount when I was unemployed, and very rarely now, because there isn't a branch near my home. I may look for more opportunities.

numbers on a satisfying workout )

Addendum: Next time, I will go down to Chinatown for lunch afterwards. I tried wandering along that stretch of Ninth Avenue, and found that while there are still lots of restaurants, it's definitely gone up in price. One aspect of that is that I got used to being there on weekdays, when lunch specials are available, but the base prices have gone up as well. (It's not just that one Thai restaurant I've been to before wouldn't give me spring rolls or soup with my pad thai, but that they wanted $11 for said pad thai.) And the noodle shop I'd had in mind as a fallback is no longer there. I wound up with pancakes and bacon at a place that served them with a non-maple syrup, and understood the concept of bringing actual tea rather than water and a teabag, but not that tea quality matters.
