redbird: "Embrace Your Inner Fish": Ray Troll drawing of Darwin (troll fish)

The delivery man showed up around 8:30 (when we called last night, we were told it would be between 7:15 and 10:15), and delivered a box containing an air conditioner. Were I more cautious, I would have opened the box to check that it matched the label, as well as verifying that the model described on the box is the one we paid for. He also delivered a support bracket, which the salesman was unable to get his computer to sell us an air conditioner without. The procedure now is that another person (or maybe a two-person team, I'm not sure) will show up, remove the old AC, and install the new AC in the same window, using the existing mounting bracket. I will then turn it on (and incidentally verify that it works), cool the room a bit (though we need it less today, because it's cooler and rainy). and go for a walk. Sometime in the next few days, [livejournal.com profile] cattitude will return the mounting bracket and get us a refund. (In the meantime, the new bracket is sitting in the dining room, not next to the new AC, to avoid the risk of them taking it away with them.

In the meantime, I am editing a math book, but not a very interesting one: this is all test practice. So, yes, check for accuracy, and that the questions are reasonable (by comparing to the state's sample test), and improve the wording here and there. Very glad to be able to do it this way, rather than either use up a personal day, or wait another three days for a cool bedroom (assuming they had Saturday delivery spots available). We've not been sleeping well.

ETA: I have heard from the installer, who called to verify that the air conditioner had been delivered, and said he would be here "soon." That's unspecific, and I've had time to put the kettle on, brew tea, and drink about half of it since that phone call.

The installers have been here, taken out the old air conditioner, installed the new one, and taken the old away. They have also advised me that, with a cat, we should clean the filter every two weeks. With this model, that looks easy enough that we probably will do it (or close enough: it may be that paydays, which are bimonthly for both me and [livejournal.com profile] cattitude, will be easier to remember than "every other Saturday" or such.

One nice thing: this model has a timer, so I'm not stuck with either using lots of electricity to cool the bedroom all day, or coming home to a very hot room (one small cat doesn't need as much AC as two humans plus that cat), as we were with the previous. That's not how Cattitude chose it, and in fact he hadn't noticed it: we chose a store based on their willingness to deliver and install, and the machine was selected based on BTU rating (which is 50% above the one it's replacing).
