It's pouring rain, 2018* degrees outside and a predicted low of 14, and I'm sitting inside drinking tea. I've been out on the balcony for about 2 minutes, a really minimal bit of "get out in daylight every day," and may actually go down to the street later on. I had a cucumber and some pate for lunch, and am working my way through
rysmiel's book collection. Sometimes a person needs a day off, and this is definitely one, despite the extremely loud children upstairs who woke me at 7.
I am, as the subject line says, a happy Vicki, though missing my
adrian_turtle, who had planned to join me for part of this trip but has taken ill. (I'll be home to
cattitude next week, and wasn't expecting to see him today.) So, caught up on LJ, an email to send, and then I think back to Nero Wolfe.
There is no real Latin for "mastodon," the word being derived, via Russian, from a Siberian language long after ordinary people discussed large beasts in Latin. (Sometimes the Web confirms my guesses about lacunae, and sometimes it fills gaps.)
*Further research tells me that while the predicted high had been 20, the actual high for the afternoon was 18. (Call it 65 F.)
