I got to work early (it seems to take me less time to get out in the mornings if I'm traveling alone, and
cattitude was out sick from work (he's fine after the day's rest), which gave me the chance to put in an extra half hour without staying late. In the course of the morning, I met the person who writes a lot of our math books. I had inferred (from the "professor emeritus" part of the author tag line) that he was thoroughly retired, except for supplying us with slight revisions when the states play with their curriculum standards; this does not seem to be the case. He, my office-mate, and I spent a bit of time chatting about math curricula, past and present, which led to, among other things, a mention of the head of my school's math department. I noted that said teacher had been the only one I hadn't clicked with, but that this may not have been his fault, since I had him for calculus, and after years of everything in my math courses making sense, he was asking me to believe in infinitesimals. (According to Jerry, a large part of why Hunter was using the unified curriculum (what was called "experimental" at Hunter) is that Dr. Ruderman was connected with people at Columbia Teacher's College, which produced it.)
After work, I went to the gym, not sure if I'd get much done, because my hip was bothering me; in the end, that was only a problem with one of my balance exercises (though I didn't touch the machies with "hip" in their names). Then home, to cook a simple but tasty dinner for myself and Cattitude: lamb patties, basmati rice, and quickly sauteed bits of scallion and green pepper to go over the rice.
I have also booked my airline tickets for a trip to Montreal next month. (Yes, I have a valid passport.)
