redbird: closeup photo of an apricot (apricot)
( Mar. 25th, 2007 09:52 pm)
First, when I saw her yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] shikzoid thanked me for posting a recipe that she has been using to impress dinner guests: [livejournal.com profile] papersky's apple cakelings. (Shikzoid said she puts them in the oven just as people sit down to start eating, and then feeds them fresh warm cakelings, and everyone is much pleased. I told her where I'd found the recipe, but figure I should pass the thank-you along.

Second, what may count as the first new food of 2007: [livejournal.com profile] cattitude just fed me "daylight flounder". I'm not clear on whether this is actually a separate species, or just a seasonal/size class difference. It seemed saltier, and denser, than regular flounder; both good, but I prefer what we usually have.
