I finally got the "what you might be interested in" LJ meme to work, and it produced, among other things, variant spellings on such interests as Ursula Le Guin and rassef, and three people who are on my LJ friends lists. Hello, [livejournal.com profile] papersky, Pamela, Ellen.

And now I'm wondering whether it's time to revamp my interests list, and delete at least a third of it on the grounds of either obviousness or "I wouldn't actually have a conversation about this, this year" (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style).

Yesterday's list would have begun "Make to-do list." Not having done so, I have only the vaguest of ideas of what else I was supposed to do.

Nonetheless:

Call orthopedist (try again after 9:30 Friday).
Call GP for referral. (In that order because if orthopedist the first isn't taking new patients, or his office says "sure, in October," I'll need to try someone else.) "Call about Tuesday or Wednesday, it's going to be ready"--but she didn't seem entirely awake when taking the info.
Pack for a short trip (including swimsuit, silk pajamas)
Cash check from ACM
Call Land's End (do not try Web chat a third time, it crashed my computer)
Try on the light purple silk salwar kameez.
Write to the maker of the salwar kameez that doesn't fit (this requires some measuring, and possibly [livejournal.com profile] cattitude's help)
Go through clothes closet: get rid of things that are worn out, try on anything not worn in ages (this may take a while, especially given the difficulty in keeping [livejournal.com profile] julian_tiger out of closets, and his fondness for clawing at hanging garments) -- about half done, less Julian-interference than originally anticipated
Lemon-pecan cakelings Use less lemon juice next time
Reread The Fortunate Fall

I've just spent some time going through my closet, getting rid of things that should have gone long ago (because they're torn and I won't ever get them mended); trying on things I haven't worn in a while; and discarding some on the grounds that I just don't like them. The pleasant surprises include that I am better supplied with summer-weight pants than I realized, including a couple of pairs of jeans I'd forgotten (though one is probably near the end of its natural lifespan) and a rather nice green silk shirt I have no memory of ever seeing before. Finding that reminded me of [livejournal.com profile] xiphias's post on the benefits of disorganization.

As I was going, I made three piles: keep, discard, and "belongs to [livejournal.com profile] cattitude. The "keep" pile was actually a mix of "yes, this fits and I want it" and "I can't bear to try this on in this weather" (I'll find out later which, if any, of my flannel shirts still fit). The "discard" was a mix of "this goes in the trash" and "someone else might want this", the latter including things that don't fit and one or two that I'm not sure why I bought (a perfectly decent light-yellow oxford shirt, for example). Following [livejournal.com profile] nellorat's example, I put the "don't quite fit" stuff--mostly pants--on the "give away" pile, on the theory that it didn't quite fit last month, and six months ago, and it won't quite fit next month and next year. It's annoying how many things I can technically get into, whose waists are painfully tight. Also annoying to have found three pairs of trousers that seem to be designed on the assumption that fat women have relatively thin legs: two are clearly too tight in the calves and one is okay until I move, at which point the thighs are too tight.

The giveaway pile, such as it is, is mostly size 18 trousers and size 16 shirts; mostly about a 28-inch inseam, though there's one pair of drawstring pants that are clearly cut for someone taller. Wave if you're local and interested; I may or may not put unclaimed things on Freecycle or take them to Goodwill, depending on my energy levels and what else I need to do. For these purposes, "interested" means that you have a use for them; if you're thinking patchwork quilts, or your best friend in Nebraska, that's fine, but you get to do the cutting or shipping.

I'm about halfway through this, with a note that I need to go through dresser drawers when I finish with the closet.

P.S. Cattitude, there's a rather nice white silk shirt that I think may be yours, but it fits me.
