I saw my doctor again. She says my lungs are clear, and that I may be reacting to all the pollen that's around. Hence, no more antibiotics: instead, I've got an over-the-counter cough syrup that contains the same ingredients as the previous plus an antihistamine. That's for a week or so. If the cough doesn't go away in a week (or if I start coughing up nasty colored phlegm) I'm to ask for a referral to get a chest X-ray. But that doesn't seem likely, based in part on how I felt (basically okay) walking to the bus, and from the drugstore home.

Everything is in bloom, which may mean more pollen but is utterly gorgeous: cherries and violets, lilacs and dogwood and wisteria, dandelions and mulberries and clover.

I haven't heard back on the proofreading job I tested for last week, which I think means they've gone with someone else. Oh, well.

Yes, [livejournal.com profile] cattitude and I will be at Wiscon, from Friday dinnertime to Monday late morning. I've sent [livejournal.com profile] kalmn email, telling her that I have to drop off one program item because I couldn't find a reasonable airfare that let me stay late enough to be on a 1 p.m. Monday panel.

And now I am going to try to catch my breath a little (metaphorically speaking--the physical is fine).

It's hard for me to entirely get past the belief that I can fix my friends' problems, if I could only think of the right answer--even when I know better, because the problem is outside my scope (e.g., most medical things) or not something that one person can solve.

This despite knowing that I can't fix all of my own problems, nor can my friends fix them for me: there's a part of me that believes that not only can I offer a cup of tea and an ear, but that those will be enough.

I suppose the positive side of this is that I'm feeling enough better, physically, to have more energy to think about things other than my lungs.

While it hasn't gotten as much press here as the Ivory-billed woodpecker, the Angolan sable had not been seen since 1974--until a few weeks ago, when images of a herd, including young and two pregnant females, were photographed in an abandoned gamepark.

This is my new "not dead yet" icon.
