I love the way everyone here returns calls without actually listening to their voicemail. This is especially handy when I know that the message I recorded was less than clear, and I'm in the middle of writing an email that I hope will explain what I need.

This almost makes up for them having left me off the "let this person into the building" list, which I'm supposed to be on every day while I'm temping here. I got to stand around in the lobby until a receptionist the security guard recognized walked in, because none of the people I work with was here as early as I was. Maybe I should ask about starting at 9:15 or 9:30, and sleep slightly later.

Still, if my worst problems are being paid to stand around the lobby for a little while, and not having figured out the cafeteria hours yet, I'm doing pretty well.

I got email from Alan yesterday: he'd been sitting on a beach and had a strong impression of my presence, and wanted to say hello and be sure I'm all right. I wrote back and assured him that yes I am.

This evening he called, sitting outside in the warmth (he and Janice have briefly taken refuge in his mother's home in Florida), and we talked a while. Caught each other up on life and plans, and I burbled a bit about Montreal and about [livejournal.com profile] papersky, [livejournal.com profile] rysmiel, and [livejournal.com profile] zorinth. It was good to talk, and I'm going to try not to let it be six or eight months between conversations again.
