There are disadvantages to sitting in a different area--on a different floor, in fact--from the rest of the group I'm working with. They've gone off to a meeting, apparently about who will be working on which specific tasks. Meanwhile, I've hit a snag in my current task, because there's missing backup material [I'm editing "ancillary" workbooks, and the exercises need to connect to the textbooks], and have nobody to consult for help.

On the positive side, I've managed not to be overheated. It involves a variation on dressing in layers, specifically a shirt and pants too cool for the weather, but suited for the overheated office. On the way to work, I supplemented them with long underwear and a sweater.

The tea in the lunchroom on this floor uses hot water that comes from a coffee machine. The cafeteria tea doesn't, but they charge for that. It may be microwave time.

Just damn.

The card I'd sent Anna came back, marked "unable to forward." Marked as such on January 4. Which means it got there while she was still alive, and maybe would have appreciated it. (Or not--but I tried, and something messed up, and I didn't reach her.)

I hadn't wept for her, until I saw that.

I got to the gym about 5:20, and they don't do Xpressline until 6:00, so I did some other exercises first. Good to be back. (I had a hiatus because I was in Montreal, and then spent last week and weekend settling into this (temp) job and trying to catch up on my sleep.)

numbers, cut for your convenience )

For several months I've had the semi-arbitrary goal of being able to press twice my body weight on the Nautilus leg press machine. Today I managed it: 390 pounds, 12 reps.

I'd already reached 240 pounds on the plate-loaded machine, and I suspect those numbers have more to do with reality. It's also a different position: the plate-loaded machine I use has me standing, and puts pressure on my shoulders, whereas the Nautilus I do lying back.

An arbitrary number, but a goal reached. Most of my goals have been the more prosaic and in some ways more difficult "keep doing this" or "go back, it's only been 2 (or 3) weeks, you haven't lost much yet."

I swore off dieting years ago (it only made me miserable). So it's been a long time since I had a weight-related goal. This one I'm proud of.
