I went to the dentist yesterday afternoon, just for a routine appointment: cleaning and check-up. But first he came out and claimed he hadn't seen me in two and a half years, which sounded wrong. A bit of rummaging through my chart and he admitted to having seen me in 2002: I knew I'd been at least once on my own money (I had dental insurance when I worked at ACM). After some more rummaging, he found the records that I'd been there in January 2003. But he couldn't find X-rays from that visit (I don't know whether there were any), and didn't apologize for accusing me of having ignored four reminder cards.
The cleaning seemed less painful than I was expecting, though my teeth felt tender for the rest of the day. No cavities or other problems, see you in six months.
After the dentist, I went to the gym. Did less than usual--both fewer machines and fewer reps on some of what I did--because my left elbow and then knees started hurting; I suspect that back-to-back dentist and gym, however virtuous it may seem, isn't an ideal plan.( numbers )
After exercising I went down to the Village, restocked on Golden Assam tea (about the only thing I buy at McNulty's, because Porto Rico reliably charges significantly less for anything that both stores carry), and met
roadnotes for dinner, conversation, and eventual music. Duck and pasta were eaten, happily, and we walked back west to Rose's Turn. I had fun, but there was enough Christmas music played that I suspect I won't be going back until next year (probably just as well, given budget and such). It was good to see Chuck and discuss possible tattoos (for him; I don't know what I'll get next), to chat with the staff a bit, and to hang out with Roadnotes and
baldanders.
On the way home, I stopped into the bagel place on Father Demo Square, and got two pumpernickel bagels--they do a fine pumpernickel--and, on a whim, something called a "French toast bagel", which the cashier said was an egg bagel with vanilla and cinnamon. I ate one pumpernickel on the train home--absorb a bit of the alcohol--and am currently having the other for breakfast. I tried the French toast, was unimpressed, and while I was making this cup of Assam tea thought "you don't have to eat that", tossed the weird bagel, and am having the other pumpernickel. Still, trying new foods is a good policy, and it cost me a whole 80¢.
[The "current mood" thing is purely playing with LJ stats--I'm feeling well-fed, loved, and cozy]
