I've sent off a letter, with an updated-for-freelancing version of my resume, to a potential client in Japan. This is something I found via the copyediting email list; she's looking for people to work on scientific journals. I think I have a reasonable chance of getting some work from this.

I had a good workout today ( numbers ) and after my workout I went down to Revival for the monthly New York rassef social.
This month it was just me, Arwen, and David Greenbaum. Arwen and I chatted about exercise before David got there. He talked about his work as a teacher. He asked us about our worst teachers, leading me to realize how few bad teachers I've had. Then we spent a while talking about our grandparents. When I mentioned that my mother had come here on a kindertransport during World War II, David asked if she'd gone to Washington Heights. I blinked, then said yes, and asked how he'd guessed that. Apparently it was where you went at that time and in that context, just as earlier Jewish immigrants (and Puerto Ricans after) went to the Lower East Side.
Good conversation, and while the bar doesn't have cider on tap, they did have Strongbow in bottles.
