redbird: a bit of fractal (mandelbrot)
( Jul. 13th, 2002 02:57 pm)
I got email a couple of days ago from a stranger, praising my Weblog. Praising it and asking how I manage to keep it interesting.

That's one of those questions. I just do it.

The thing about those questions, though, is that they stick in the mind. So: I stay interesting because I'm interested. Many things interest me, and sometimes I say "Look, shiny!" with a few of them. The Weblog is purely my own, with no agenda and nobody to answer to. If three things seem worthwhile, I'll put up three entries in an hour. If not, I may not post for a week. Yesterday was politics and paleontology. When you're not reporting to anyone, you can do that.

Do look at the architecture, you'll see cool things, and people will think you're a local. Because all the tourists are too busy carefully not staring, in order to try to pass for locals. (They'd do better to learn to walk like they know where they're going, if they don't want to be identified.) Those of us born and bred here will stop to enjoy the fiddly bits on building facades, the sort you don't get anymore.
