Some weeks ago, in the course of a discussion of con volunteering on rec.arts.sf.fandom, I said that I did the FAQ as a volunteer, but anyone who disagreed and thought I should be paid was free to send a check to help pay the Panix bill. Not, of course, expecting that anyone did.
This afternoon, I got a message with the subject line "For the FAQ", which I expected to contain a new question, or an update of a Web site address, or a note that I'd missed a typo. Instead, it informed me that a poster (who will remain nameless for the moment) had sent me $5, via paypal, toward my panix bill. (Since I pay Panix by the year--they give a discount if you do it that way--I'll probably spend the money on tea, but it's hard to tell one dollar from another, especially in electronic form.)
This was the same rassef discussion that led to my working in the Green Room at Minicon: quite productive and rewarding.
