I was remarkably cheered this morning, walking out of the Port Authority bus terminal, to see a polka-dot cement truck.

When I was growing up, the polka-dotted trucks were part of the local landscape. Eventually I found out where they lived when not out dispensing cement: next to the FDR Drive.

And then the company went out of business. I think it had something to do with questions of mob influence in the construction agency, but I'm not sure. What I'm sure of is that the trucks were still parked next to the river; I watched the bright dots fade for years.

I don't know if this is the same company, or just someone who shares my liking for polka-dotted cement trucks. But there was a "61" painted on the cab, so I hope to see more of them.
