Since[livejournal.com profile] cattitude had to be out early to go to the dentist, I got up and out early as well and headed to the gym. (Same subway stop.)

One oddity of this was looking around during my workout and realizing I was the only person in the weight room. A few minutes later, two or three guys had come in, but while I'm used to it being uncrowded at off-hours, I've never been alone in there before.

Hip adduction: 110 pounds, 15, 13, 9+4
Hip abduction: 90 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Cardio: 33 minutes, heart rate ranging from 136-150. I didn't have a newspaper, so I sat and thought about the novel-not-exactly-in-progress, possible work, and other matters.
Bench press: 50 pounds, 12, 12, 8+3
Seated leg curl: 75 pounds, 15 reps; 80 pounds, 13, then 15
Adjustable row: 100 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Back arch with the exercise ball: 3 sets of 15
Tricep pulldown: 40 pounds, 2 sets of 15, then as I was stretching Bob (the friendly trainer I talked to on Friday) came over and told me I needed to correct my position. He took it down to 30 pounds and told me that only my forearms should move. Also, don't pull outwards at the bottom of the move; pause at the bottom, but not at the top; keep my elbows next to my body. What I had been doing put at least some of the work on the shoulders instead of the triceps. I did 3 sets of 15 at 30 pounds with Bob watching and positioning me. So all in all my triceps got a thorough workout.
Lower back stretches using the machine
Bicep curl, 35 pound bar, 3 sets of 15
Hand curls, using 2-pound weights (these are ones I thought were 1 pound each, but they have a faint 2 incised in them), overhand, 3 sets of 15.
The rest of my usual stretches

I had lunch at Rue de Crepes, then visited [livejournal.com profile] porcinea; she and her sweetie fed me tasty things and lots of good tea, and she and I talked all afternoon while he mostly did useful things at the other end of the loft.Shoes and ships and ceiling wax. I described my workout and the triceps interlude, and we agreed that those are a difficult muscle to exercise properly.

Arrrgh! I am full of jealousy that so many people that I want to get to know better and meet face to face are so far away! Please excuse my venting, I am enjoying reading about your life very much.
