My mother came uptown to accompany me to the doctor—not strictly necessary, but comforting. We took a car service up, to be gentle with my health.
Apparently I'm quite a bit better. The pains in my chest from coughing are rib pains, not lung, and are unsurprising in this case. I asked how soon after I felt better I could return to the gym, and the doctor said that as far as he's concerned, I could go back now. He particularly doesn't want me just sitting around or lying in bed.
I'm not going to start lifting weights again today, but we walked two blocks to the bus, then (via the pharmacy) eight or so home, carefully avoiding hills to the extent possible in Inwood. I coughed a little during the walk, but no more than I had been just sitting around.
Next Monday, another chest X-ray and then to the doctor's office: rather than a specific appointment, he said to just come to his office when I'm done with radiology.
