I went to the gym, where I lifted weights and did cardio, chatted about animals with one of the trainers, and was thanked by another for helping two hotel guests find the locker room. He thanked me, I'd guess, because it's part of his job to do that sort of thing--but it's part of my job, not in any salaried sense but as one of my parts of maintaining civilization.

Stretches

After my workout, I went downtown, and tried to drop in on [livejournal.com profile] porcinea, who was napping. So I went across the street and grabbed a quick dinner at Wendy's (3 of the 99-cent items: I approve of the chive-and-sour-cream potato), then over to St. Mark's Place to buy more purple socks.

I was yawning as I headed back west, so I stopped in at Porto Rico and got a cup of good tea: they'll make a cup of any of the loose teas they have, for a very reasonable 80 cents, made by someone who understands things like letting the tea steep before adding milk. I chatted a bit with her and with another customer, and she told me there was another cup of tea in those leaves, so I took them with me. I'm drinking it now--the second cup is never as good, but it's also not significantly caffeinated, handy at this hour.

Then I walked over to Rose's turn, where Rainie looked at me and said "ginger ale?" and asked if [livejournal.com profile] roadnotes would be there. I said I didn't know, and then Clare noticed my cardinal and said something, so I walked over and showed her the complete set, which let me tell Rainie "I was just showing off my body to your piano player." The place was almost empty; I hung out a while and sipped ginger ale while Clare played Beatles tunes (she'd asked me for a suggestion; my first was Chicago, but she didn't have her Broadway book with her). It was fun in a low-key way, though it would have been nice to see Roadnotes, [livejournal.com profile] baldanders, [livejournal.com profile] eleanor, and the rest of that crowd.
