I had a good workout, with a new exercise given me by one of the trainers, and a new stretch. Nonetheless, or perhaps therefore, my shoulders are now sore.
Hip adduction, 100 pounds, 3 sets of 13. I had to reduce the distance to get through the third set; I didn't have the usual pause between the second and third sets, because someone else came along and started using the hip abduction machine.
Hip abduction, 90 pounds, 2 sets of 12
Cardio, 30 minutes. Getting to 33 just seemed like too much: I had to cajole myself for the last couple of minutes as it was.
Bench press, 50 pounds, 12, 12, 7+5 reps.
Seated leg curl, 70 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Adjustable row, 100 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Seated leg press, 140 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Triceps pulldown, 40 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Then I went over to the mat, and started on my usual routine of alternating sets of 15 crunches and 15 back arches. As I started the second set of arches, the person next to me commented that he was one of the trainers who work there, and offered to show me a variation. I accepted. It involved putting my legs up on a physioball, and then lifting. It works more muscles, because I'm not only lifting, I'm balancing to keep from rocking to one side. Apparently it's important to keep one's feet pointed up, not sideways, when doing this. I did four or five lifts as he was talking me through it, then got two triceps exercises from him, because my triceps were hurting more than usual after I exercised them. The easier one involves holding a towel in both hands, putting the arm I want to stretch behind my shoulder and the other behind my lower back, and pulling down. The difficult one is similar but without the towel. After that I did ten more of the lifts-with-ball, and another set of crunches.
Biceps curl, 35 pound bar, 3 sets of 15.
The usual stretches
The after-workout shower was a particular pleasure because we'd had no heat or hot water all morning (the landlord warned us about this a few days in advance, but while that let us run the dishwasher last night, it didn't give me hot water this morning).
After working out I followed
porcinea's directions, went down to Sol Moscot, and got the sunglasses
rysmiel asked for.
