First, a note: tasty as those apple cakelings are, they don't make enough of a breakfast to keep me going through a proper workout ending at 1 p.m. (By the way,
papersky, are those Imperial ounces you used in that recipe?)
I did almost entirely upper body stuff, since I wasn't sure my calf muscle was entirely recovered. And Bob my favorite trainer agrees with Papersky that the problem may have been lack of sodium/salt.
This time I went for more weight and fewer reps.
Hip adduction: 110 pounds, 11, then 6. I didn't get to alternate with abduction because someone else was using that machine.
Cardio, 33 minutes, top heart rate 150. Having read everything else in the feature section of the paper, I did the cryptoquote; guessing (correctly) the attribution very early made it easy.
Bench press: 50 pounds, 10, 10, 9
Adjustable row, 110 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Tricep pulldown, 40 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Bicep curls, 40 pound bar, 12, 8; 30 pound bar, 15
Back/hip lift with physio ball, 15.
Crunches, 20
Stretches
I also jotted down a vague idea for a character or maybe a short story, involving a person tattooed with extinct birds.
By the time I was done at the gym, it was raining. Since it was a warm rain, I walked up to Tea Den anyhow. I munched on some fried noodles and duck sauce as soon as they were brought, then ate wonton soup and beef with tea sauce. Tasty and filling. Then I walked back down Eighth Avenue to 43rd Street to get my free ice cream cone at Ben and Jerry's. The line was very short, probably because of the rain. I was pleased that one of the flavors available was oatmeal cookie crunch.
I walked, with my ice cream, in the rain to 42nd and Broadway, and got the IRT up to 72nd, for a stop at Fairway for produce, butter, and (since I was there, and so was it) brie. Thence home, to
cattitude, tea, and Scrabble.
The glorious apple has finished blooming, but some new cherries have just blossomed, the lawns are full of dandelions, and the willows are putting out catkins.
