I had a good, thorough workout yesterday
Hip adduction, 105 pounds: 14, 14, 10+2
Hip abduction, 95 pounds: 3 sets of 12
Cardio: 33 minutes, top heart rate 154. This seems to be at or above the suggested target, depending on which of the little diagrams at the gym I believe in (one shows 80 percent of "maximum heart rate" as the top end of the cardio zone, the other shows 85; both are calibrated by age, with actual numbers shown only for multiples of 5 years).
Bench press, 50 pounds: 12, 11, 8+4 (and I had to stop before getting the weights back to their starting point on the last rep)
Seated leg curl, 75 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Adjustable row, 110 pounds, 3 sets of 15 (I wasn't sure I'd make this, having skipped that machine last time)
Crunches, 4 sets of 20
Back arches, 3 sets of 15
Yoga tree
Triceps pulldown, 35 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Seated leg press, 140 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Biceps curls, 40 pounds, 3 sets of 13
Lateral raise, 5 pounds in each hand, 2 sets of 15
Stretches
After exercising, I went over to Amy's Bread and had a brie-and-apple sandwich, a chocolate roll, and a cup of tea. While I was there,
green_amber called me and we discussed her coming down to Rose's later in the evening.
Thence down to the Village, to buy coffee for
cattitude and Golden Assam tea for me. At different stores, because McNulty's, the place that carries that nice Assam, charges significantly more for, well, just about everything than Porto Rico does. So I only go to McNulty's for things I can't find elsewhere. I stopped briefly at Aphrodisia between the two coffee-and-tea stores, and spoke to another customer, who admired and sympathized with my "Surveillance undermines liberty" button. We told each other to stay strong, not having other practical advice. Then he left, I browsed briefly, and realized I didn't actually need any herbs or spices. It's a pleasant place, though.
Rose's Turn was fun. When I got there, it was very quiet.
roadnotes had arrived before me, and we talked a bit while Clare played piano, then chatted with Clare a bit while she took a break and got Rainey (the bartender) to make her some coffee. I encouraged Roadnotes in a couple of slightly mad schemes. While the place was half empty, Clare played as much of "Truckin'" as any of us could remember the words to; odd but fun.
Green Amber did in fact turn up, and was utterly delighted by the people and the atmosphere. I don't know what she'd expected, but she liked what she found, and seemed surprised by how many of the songs she knew; it was the usual mix of Broadway and rock/pop. Then she crashed, so I got her into a cab, and returned to the bar for a little while before heading home myself.
I came home to find Cattitude still awake, and my first package of Tiptree Award reading on the living room table.
