My characters are once again wandering off into romantic nonsense, avoiding the theoretical plotline. I can't blame them for this, because (a) it looks dangerous, from their viewpoint, and (b) I'm not sure what comes next. But I have five days to finish, not even counting today. I think I'll make it. "Finish" meaning "get to 50,000," not "have a complete novel." This either needs to be a lot longer than that, or be cut drastically and not even claim to be a novel. And, of course, it's all first draft. An exercise, as much as a work of art.
