Nanowrimo, more sideways progress

Well, I got rid of the dog last night.

Today, I've written just over 1100 words, not counting entries in the "notes" file for possible later use. My characters have acquired and set up an answering machine, planned to bake pecan pie, and received a very weird message on said machine. roadnotes has mice--I have impossible messages from President Mondale [sic]. And I'm still not sure what those fish want.

I suspect that the fish are President Mondale, but I'm not sure. Another thousand words, and I think I've stopped this thing from turning into a horror novel and dragged it back into science fiction.
