I've had better mornings. [livejournal.com profile] cattitude and I are both tense and fragile, but we had to deal with bills and a lease renewal. Assuming that we'll find work around here--if we leave town, breaking the lease here will be the least of our concerns, I think. But since we're tense and money is tight, paying bills is now fraught, instead of a routine "what's come in this week, where's my checkbook" as in good times.

The less said about politics the better.

But I did get through a first pass on the weird "Christian mothers" manuscript, fiddling with spelling and punctuation and wondering idly if putting the Holy Trinity in one's family tree just above Grandpa is considered blasphemy.

That seems like a rather Japanese version of Christianity. I wonder if they're a very recently invented sect?

[livejournal.com profile] thetrinker used to tell me that Japanese religious practice tends toward snycretism, even when that would appear to contradict the principles of one or more of the religions involved. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Shintoist practices or beliefs grafted onto Catholicism.

That was my thought, sort of like having the Emperor being directly descended from a god.

TNH would certainly be a much better source than me, but I believe Roman Catholicism has a long and successful history of spawning sects who agree in some heresy or other. Like the one I was brought up in, The Church of England.

Thinking about [livejournal.com profile] rivka's comment, I guess I'm wondering whether their syncretist adoption of the Holy Trinity and Virgin Mary into the family tree is central enough to their understanding of Christianity to make them a separate sect. You could be getting in on the Ground Floor of Something Big!
