Lightning, thunder, much water, and much wind. Boom, flash, whoosh! Cat had to run and hide.
When it was over, Andy went outside, and came back with the special emergency snapdragon report: many of the flowers I'd planted yesterday had been knocked over and pulled out of their holes.
I went out right after dinner, trowel in hand, and did my best to fix it: taking advantage of the wet soil to dig deeper holes, tuck the flowers in, and bed them down again. It might have been okay to wait until morning, or it might not. Best to fix things right away. (A philosophy I would do well to apply more broadly than to snapdragons.)
Last year's plants, covered in bright flowers, were mostly leaning way over under the weight of all the water, but will probably recover: they have solid root systems by now. I shook some of the water off, and did my best to stop them from leaning heavily on each other.
