A pleasant evening out last night. Len, one of the founders of Andy's former company, had several people over for food and conversation.

Len is a seriously good cook. I'd been dithering about the whole thing--feeling a bit down, mostly--but Andy pointed out the quality of food we could expect, and I went.

Many good things: a Yukon gold potato salad, nice cheeses, asparagus and roasted red pepper, excellent shrimp in garlic sauce. Len and Eileen have a rosemary plant sitting in the corner, and I discovered that fresh rosemary is an excellent thing to put on goat cheese.

So we sat, and talked, and nibbled, and all that was good.

Except that Len lives in one of the corners of New Jersey that you get to by bus. I don't like long bus rides: I get carsick if I try to read, or play games on my Palm, or do much of anything besides talk to people. I was glad to get back to Port Authority and off the bus--still a train ride to get home, but a train, not a bus. Much better.

And it rained, quite heavily. We hung our coats and my jeans in the bathroom last night. Good rain. Soaking rain. Much-needed rain.
