I started off on Tuesday by meeting an online acquaintance--Brian, one of my CELmates--for lunch. We tried an Ethiopian restaurant on Mulberry Street, and were quite pleased. Ghenet has a short lunch menu, but the hostess/waitress said we could certainly order from the larger dinner menu. So, nice sauteed mushrooms, then lentils and spicy beans, plenty of injera, and a pot of good tea to finish, while we talked about New York and editing and such.

Then we walked. For an hour or two, in no particular direction, talking a bit more. Eventually we got to the garden at LaGuardia place, where the irises, roses, and forsythia are blooming, hugged goodbye, and went our separate ways.

Mine was to the gym, to lift weights. After all that walking, I decided to skip the cardio. Not having been at the gym in a bit, I lowered the weight on a couple of the machines. I've also been looking at the new leg press, and realized that while I have it set to a lower weight than on the old one, this one is constructed so you're lifting the weights, plus your upper body. Ergo, I almost certainly am pressing significantly more than my body weight when I put 140 pounds of weight on it. Yea me! (My goal with the old machine was to be pressing my body weight by the end of this year.)

And then we had a rassef gathering. I got assorted useful things at Sahadi first, then went over to the Brazen Head, and waited to see who would arrive. Catherine showed around 6:30, something of a relief--I'm capable, when the first to arrive at something like this, with no RSVPs, of thinking "Is today really Tuesday?" as well as "Is anyone coming?" We wound up with Velma, Scraps, and Teresa doing the backstory on the Farber saga. We bought Teresa margaritas, and eventually I noticed that it was 9:30 and I was hungry. We ate at a Middle Eastern place down the street, which we had to ourselves because it was getting late, but the food was fine and plentiful, as was the conversation. And Teresa is going to give me homemade marmalade.

I got home at 1, but set my alarm anyway. Then turned it off, and lay in bed until 10, with the cat. There was time, and I was tired; the alarm is to keep us from lying around all day, not to deprive me of my rightful eight hours of sleep.

And now we're going to meet Patricia and see the Harry Potter movie. Ah, the mad social whirl.
