Going back to my ex-office was interesting. I spent part of the morning with what I thought might be a sinus headache, but identified as tension when it quietly vanished on the subway, then came back the moment I got off the train at 42nd Street. Okay, at least we have internal communications.

And the man I always got my breakfast from was genuinely pleased to see me, and after I ordered and paid for just a cup of tea, reached over, put something in the bag, smiled, and said he was giving me my favorite roll. I thanked him, and smiled back--the roll was nice, the thought of the roll was warming and more than nice.

As soon as we got upstairs, my ex-boss asked me about the backup scripts I'd left behind, and I identified the problem for her. She set me up at another machine, and I found and printed such files--fewer than I'd hoped--that might be useful. She also printed a couple of documentation emails I'd sent to her.

The other people were friendly, though the only advice most had to offer was that it's a good cheap time to travel, and a slow time for job hunting anyhow. Maybe I will go to Wales for the new year. Or Seattle just because. Why don't I have friends to stay with in warmer, brighter places I can get to with my banked frequent flier miles?

And I went to the gym afterward, and even did some cardio, since the not-a-tension-headache had gone away once I saw how little there was to be tense about. Lifted stuff, not as much as I'd have liked because my right calf cramped again on the leg extension, during the third set. Try a lower weight next time, I guess. Turns out that while classes are cancelled for Thanksgiving weekend, the gym will be open normal hours, so I can try to get back once or even twice more this week.

Now I have to get myself to prepare and send off that proposal for the consulting gig, for which I'm almost certain they'll find someone they prefer. But stamps are cheap (okay, this will probably be a dollar's worth of postage, but I've already bought more stamps than I'm using for this job hunt, because most people want resumes by email these days), and it can't hurt to try. Even if I'd rather play Scrabble or plant crocuses.
