Does anyone have an unwanted Kindle 4?

I lost my Kindle on the way home from Montreal earlier this week. I had a Kindle 4, and looking briefly at lists of features, the more recent models don't look like improvements. In particular, I want the e-ink black-and-white display; I like the buttons for turning pages (recent models seem to all be touchscreens); and I like how small and therefore lightweight it is.

They're not making these anymore, but Amazon has links for several people and/or companies that have used models to sell. Before I take my chances there, I figure it's worth asking whether anyone I know has a Kindle 4 sitting around that they'd like to sell.

I don't have a Kindle, but I hope you find one. I tend to use the free Kindle app and/or the read online feature across many devices, so hopefully you can still get at your books while you're waiting to get a new (old) device in your preferred form.

I have the app on my phone, and in fact used it for the Montreal-Boston bus ride last week, but I prefer the larger screen. (I have an older and relatively small smart phone, in part because I like something that will fit in a pocket.) I also suspect that the repeated swiping to turn pages on the phone is one of the things that my shoulder is unhappy about right now.

I didn't know you could use kindle without swiping! That's one of the reasons I prefer to read ebooks on my phone, with Cool Reader. It's not the reader that came with your phone, but it's free. I need to convert some files to epub, but that's easy with calibre.

For the kindle app on Android, or the kindles that have touchscreens, which I think is all current models, you go forward or backward by tapping near the edge of the page: right-hand side for next page, left-hand for previous. (I was trying out Cattitude's kindle for a bit yesterday.) I hadn't realized this until yesterday because swiping also works on the Android app.

I might try there next, but that feels like dealing with strangers again, rather than asking friends and acquaintances here and on Dreamwidth. (I haven't met all my LJ and DW readers in person, or had long online interactions with them, but they're all at least people I already know I want to read/want to read my stuff.)

The advantage of the Arlington list would be if I heard from someone where it was convenient to go and try turning the Kindle on/using it before paying, rather than hoping a “no warranty” device bought through on Amazon works when I power it up.
