This was the first PT in a bit over two weeks (because I was on vacation, and then I postponed what would have been Tuesday's session to give the ankle a bit of time to rest/recover).
The 550 bus still being rerouted, I took a cab to PT to spare the ankle.
We started with a brief discussion of how I was doing, followed by ultrasound for my left thumb. Then one of the staff showed me some gentle stretches for the thumb.
Next, I spent five minutes using the arm bike for warmup, Ian checked on the state of the right shoulder (quite good), and then I did my strengthening exercises: row, lateral pulldowns, external rotation, and internal rotation.
After that, we moved to my left ankle/foot. The entire ankle is noticeably swollen (they had me take off both shoes and socks so they could look at and palpate things). I have some stretches for the ankle, and advice to continue with rest, ice, elevation, and add compression (suggestions including wrapping a towel around it, or an ice pack and then a towel). They're not allowed to give me medication, even ibuprofen, or to recommend it, so she just said "if it works for you" when I asked if I should keep using it.
The trip back—234 bus to the transit center, stop for hot chocolate and to buy sandwiches at the bagel shop, then walk along 108th to NE 4th and home—was okay, in that nothing hurt by the time I arrived. But I am taking it easy for the rest of the day.
I did the remaining shoulder exercises—the shrugs and serratus pushups—in the bedroom just now.
