We were worried about Julian seeming to have lost appetite, and throwing up more than he used to, and Cattitude thought he was overdue for a checkup, so I made an appointment for today.
The vet says he looks basically well, and they took blood and urine samples. She will email me on Monday with the results; if we don't hear from her by 6 p.m. I should call her. He has lost a pound since the last visit, which we were aiming for. The vet says that 13 pounds is a good weight for him, and he probably shouldn't lost more.
We discussed food options, and she suggested we try a brand called Royal Canin, but we're not going to change anything in the next couple of days. (If the tests do find any sort of GI or other medical issues, that might affect what we feed him.)
The vet also advised postponing Julian's rabies shot slightly, until we get the test results, since his last was about a fortnight short of one year ago, and he's an indoor-only cat. That means taking him back in a couple of weeks, which he won't love.
It was easier getting Julian into his carrier than usual, which was immediately convenient but may be another sign that he's not entirely well. Or he may just be getting old.
