I have "interim privs" in two of the support categories!

I didn't even ask for them, or for a review--I just got email today from "Twenty years of schooling and they put you on the day shift" (really) telling me that I have them. I almost tossed it--the username is odd, and the subject line was "Congratulations", then took another look at my email when I saw a screened answer I knew I hadn't written.

This doesn't let me approve things, or write unscreened answers; in the short term, it's mostly cool egoboo. They liked me! They picked me! I'm clearly doing something right. (It's definitely time to add "support" to my list of interests.)

my congratulations

would be more heartfelt if I knew which operation had granted you privileges. Or, what? Apparently I've missed more context than I thought by not reading LJ much lately.

Btw, in my most recent spasm of Getting Things Done I think I have established a consistent cache of packing materials suitable for shipping an IBM Thinkpad 560. I hope at least one of these batteries is still working. If not, we might have to start a Subscription. Sorry this has been so slow: it would have been nice to have seen you through the Con Ed work, or the air conditioning.

The Con Ed work sounds like the kind of thing they'd need to do to replace large-scale equipment, like the power supply for your elevator, especially if they're doing cumulative fixes to bring the whole megillah into line with current ideas of safety codes. That kind of work also usually results in one's being able to fix things like the horrible wiring in Avram's apartment without shutting down other people, or the elevator.

Bob Dylan! I'ma go NUTS until I figure out the name of that song. Urg!

Congratulations. Is this support for LJ?

Is it "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream"?

It's "Subterranean Homesick Blues." "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream" is the one that starts with Captain Ahab.

Thanks for getting me to drag out Bringing It All Back Home. I haven't listened to that in too long.

Hey, what's odd about my email nick? ;)

You write good answers. The interim privs are to let you know when there's another answer in the request that you think might be approvable, so you don't waste your time writing answers when there's already one in a request. That's the biggest frustration that we heard from screened users, so we decided -- well, why not let people who have already proven that they know how the system works see the other screened answers? :)

frustrations over screening

That's the biggest frustration that we heard from screened users

oh, ain't that the truth. i actually love tech support (i know, crazy), but i don't have the time to spend writing answers that are basically gonna get tossed because several other people responded before me. it'd be preferable to me if everyone could see whether a correct response has already been posted; maybe on a separate page so it won't confuse the user who has the problem.

but it's good that there is at least something so people who stick it out anyway can eventually get to the point where they don't have to waste their time anymore.

congrats, redbird! rock on! :)
