Last night I had dinner with Eimear, visiting from Ireland;
roadnotes,
baldanders,
agrumer, and Chris. I got to play organizer because I expressed interested when she posted to rassef that she'd be in town. The gathering was small, because quite a few people were already on their way to Worldcon, or doing last-minute preparation. Eimear said she didn't like spicy food, so we went to Veselka. Blueberry pierogi. Kasha-and-mushroom pierogi (disappointing). Plum dumplings (the plum was nice, the dough rather, well, doughy). Pea soup. Other people had meatballs and stroganoff, and the dumplings and pierogi (I split the blueberry with Eimear, the kasha-and-mushroom and the plum dumplings with roadnotes.
We ate good food, and talked, and then tried to turn the cube in Astor Place, but it's been bolted down, for no apparent reason; then Eimear headed back to New Jersey, I went home, and the others went on to additional evening activities.
I had a good workout, but my knees are sore, and I'm more tired than I think I ought to be.
Hip adduction, 100 pounds, 3 sets of 15. Hip abduction, 90 pounds, 15 then 14; third set, 85 pounds, 15 reps.
Cardio, 33 minutes, level 8. Heart rate got up to 140s after a bit, and mostly stayed there--hit 150 a few times and, as seems to be common, dropped to around 136 for the last couple of minutes.
Bench press, 45 pounds, 3 sets of 15, no need to do 11-and-4 or anything. At this rate, I'll be able to add another five pounds soon.
Seated leg curl, 60 pounds, 2 sets of 15; 55 pounds, 1 set of 15.
Adjustable row, 90 pounds, 3 sets of 15.
Mat work: alternating crunches and arches, 3 sets of 15 each. I was having trouble getting the motion right on the crunches. On the third set, I closed my eyes, and it went a lot better, so I did the third set of back arches the same way. (With my eyes open, I mostly see the white drop ceiling, and a bit the people walking by, so it's no hardship to close them.) That yoga balancing thing, a couple of times on each foot. I needed the wall some, but only some.
Triceps pull-downs: bar handle, 80 pounds, 2 sets of 15 (still feels a little tough, but doable); rope handle, 50 pounds, 1 set of 15.
I've been doing bicep curls at home, with the eight-pound weight, alternating hands. Having done three sets yesterday afternoon, I decided not to do any at the gym. So that left stretching: lower back (which I was feeling in my upper arms, perhaps because it was right after the triceps stuff); hamstrings; gluteals, hips; inner thigh, groin; upper back; shoulders; quadriceps.
The ends of my hair were soaked, but I discovered I'd left my comb in my other bag, so I didn't wash my hair properly, just a quick shampoo-and-rinse on the bottom part, which was wet anyway, and ran my hands through it. This short haircut has its advantages.
I had a big bowl of soup at Tea Den, since it's a cool, soupish sort of day. The table behind me was someone's "leaving a job" party, with lots of flash photography; fortunately, they were behind me. Then home via the drugstore and supermarket: we once again have useful things like limes, onions, eggs, and lightbulbs. No canned tomatoes, though: the basket was getting heavy, and I decided I would use ice cream sooner.

In the meantime, for anyone following along at home, the usernames are roadnotes, baldanders, and agrumer.
