I went to Excellent Dumpling, largely because it's so handy to the train. I had a pleasant encounter there: they seated me at one of the large tables. I had started on my duck with black bean sauce (one of the things I seem to rotate among when eating there) when they seated someone across from me, a man with lots of long braids. He seemed a bit confused by the menu, and asked me if what I was eating was good. I said yes, and told him what it was, and after a couple of questions he closed the menu. When the server came back, he pointed at my plate and nodded; she confirmed that he meant "I'll have what she's having." That was the end of the conversation, but when his lunch arrived, he tasted it and smiled, then dug in.
After lunch I walked east in search of fruit and vegetables. I stopped at three different sidewalk stands, and came home with two pints of blueberries, a pound of cherries, and a pound of fresh ginger. All good, and none of it was on my shopping list; I did a supermarket run a couple of hours later for mushrooms and paper towels and juice and such.
