Yesterday was the first time I tried using the weight-lifting gloves I picked up a couple of days ago. They're slightly awkward, at least so far (they may break in), but they did their job of protecting the spots near my middle fingers that were being irritated by the weight machine handles. I also went back to the leg press, and my knees were not happy for the rest of the day, perhaps as a result. Hip adduction, 100 pounds, and abduction, 90: 3 sets of 15 on each, though the last few reps on the adduction I didn't move my legs all the way out. Cardio, 31 minutes, heart rate mostly in the 140s, and at 150-153 for about three minutes near (but not at) the end. It took all of two minutes to get my heart rate up to 140; it was at 120 by the one-minute mark.

Bench press, 45 pounds, 3 sets of 15, though the last set was a near thing. Still, better than last Friday. Leg curl, 60 pounds, 3 sets of 15, though some of the work on the last few reps was coming from my lower back instead of my legs. Row, 90 pounds, 3 sets of 15.

Triceps, rope handle, 50 pounds (an increase), one set of 15. Bar, tried 80 pounds for 4 reps, then took it down to 70 for the rest of that set, plus one full set of 15.

Leg press, 150 pounds, two sets of 15. Possibly a mistake. Bicep curls, half a set with 12-pound weights in each hand, then 15 reps with ten pounds per hand.

Stretching: lower back, hamstrings, gluteals/hips. Only two reps on the inner thigh stretch, because the arch of my right foot hurt from the position. Upper back. Shoulders.

Lunch at Amy's bread, brie and good ripe tomatoes on baguette, with a chocolate twist alongside and a cup of tea. The problem with Amy's is that while the prices are reasonable for lunch, I never manage to just buy lunch. This time I got two chocolate-cherry rolls, which [livejournal.com profile] cattitude and I had for breakfast this morning, and a small sourdough loaf.

Then I took the bus down to Union Square (to spare my legs the subway steps), where I got shiro plums (not as good as I'd expected; it seems to be late in the season), strawberries, blackberries, a lemon pie, and carrots. Finally. I hadn't seen decent carrots in the stores in weeks, and we were completely out.

Andy came and found me, and we went down to the Lower East Side for a Fringe show called MedeaMachine, a weird but good modern riff on Medea. The weirdest thing about it was that, at the end of Act I, they had us all follow them outside and across the street, and the rest of the show was done in and around a paved area that seemed to be part parking lot, part basketball court. The cast played basketball, drove very short distances, climbed the chain link fence, and otherwise used the space as part of the performance. I found myself wondering what the kids who had wandered along the street and seen only the last ten minutes or so thought.

There was almost no work to do at the NYRSF meeting this week, so we addressed a few envelopes and basically just sat around and talked. Since I'd gone mostly because I wanted to see people, this was fine with me.
