new earring

I had left the old ring in my ear overnight and through the day (it's a nuisance to take the things out), and after work I went down to the Village and started trying plausible-looking tattoo/piercing shops. (My main criterion was that that the shop doesn't have drug paraphernalia in the front window, and is just selling tattoos and/or piercing.) The first two didn't have suitable jewelry (I think one might have, but the person behind the counter was stuck on the idea of what jewelry was for ears and what was for other piercings, even though I said I wanted a captive bead ring.)

I stopped in at Varsano's and got some chocolate, then kept looking. The third (or was it fourth?) shop didn't have colored captive bead rings (they had some colored jewelry, straight or slightly curved barbells, but the man said he didn't think it would look good/really be visible in an earlobe). I asked to take a look at the black rings, and now have a black captive bead ring (ring and bead both) in my right ear. It seemed reasonable to try something different, after a decade or longer with the purple niobium (Felix, do you remember what year you got your nose stud and I got this?). If I change my mind, I can look around for a colored ring again, and tuck this one away somewhere.

I also inquired about reworking my cardinal tattoo; the piercer said he could do it, and quoted me a price, but when I asked about his portfolio he pointed me back to the cashier, who started showing me things on the shop's website. I have their card, and may look through more of it later. $150 is reasonable, the question is whether he has a good eye for color.

Yep! Early November 2000. I had to look at old Aries Moon entries to find it. I think the black sounds good. I'd like to get something new for my nose, I ought to hit the tattoo shop where they did my upper ear.

do you happen to remember the name of the shop? I would like more decent piercing/tattoo resources in this city--it actually comes up in conversation an awful lot.

Moon Sheen Tattoo, but I've already lost the card they gave me, and while the (http://www.moonsheentattoo.com/). While I liked them, I should note that what I can recommend is that the guy did a good job taking out the old earring and putting in a new one in an existing piercing, but not their skills at actually doing a piercing. (He put on gloves, and sprayed what I think was rubbing alcohol on my ear before doing anything else. Probably not necessary in this case, a decade-old ear piercing, but better to do it every time than to omit it when needed.)

Did changing the captive bead ring hurt? I'd been wondering about getting the CBR in my ear-helix changed, because in the four years I've been wearing it all the purple has worn off, but it can be kind of tender anyway (not infected, it just gets banged around when I sleep on it), and I was reluctant about going to some shop where I don't know anyone.

Removing the old ring hurt a little (as it had when I'd done it myself in the past), just getting it past the wide part of the earlobe. Putting the new one in didn't, really, which puts them ahead of both me doing it myself and the place I'd gotten the previous replacement ring. (I didn't go back there because even if the bead falling out after a month or so was a fluke, I knew I wouldn't trust them to get it right this time.)
