Last night, I started having an intermittent dry cough. Hurt while I was coughing, but that wasn't most of the time. I took cough suppressant (dextromethorphan) before bed, which I think helped.
Today was similar, and I took a dextromethorphan capsule in early afternoon (I have some in my desk at work). I dithered about going to the gym, but I had an appointment with Emilie, and hadn't seen her in a fortnight. I coughed intermittently during the workout, and I think more toward the end of the hour, but not bad.
Came home via my semi-usual hot chocolate and then the A train, and by the time I got home it was definitely a sore throat, and the area over the windpipe is tender to the touch (nearby parts of my neck aren't). I have talked to
cattitude, and am currently on IM with
adrian_turtle and glad she's in a mood to type rather than talk. I had home-made split pea soup for dinner (Cattitude made this back in December, and froze one serving).
julian_tiger is howling, to say either "feed me you fool" or "why aren't you answering me?" but the way my throat feels, I'm going to save talking for actual communication, not nattering to the cat or talking to myself.
Cardio, 16:00, top 133.
Rolled out IT band (both legs, 8 or so reps each.)
Hamstring bridge, 3 sets of 7. Didn't do a fourth because I was worried the left calf might cramp.
Squats with ball, 2 sets of 15
Calf raise with ball, 2 sets of 15
Abs: tried briefly on ball with feet against wall, felt unsteady, did one lying on the floor with my back on a relatively resistant squishy ball, two good sets, and Emilie praised me (not sure if that was for form or for how much I did, or both).
Standing on the foam roller: did a bit that went very smoothly, including hands behind back the way I do in one of my shoulder stretches. Emilie said "now you're showing off," which was true, but it's also true that it had worked on Tuesday, and I said so. Then I got self-conscious and had a little trouble, so Emilie held out her hands for me to use as balance while climbing on. That went okay, and I tried turning my head, a little, in each direction.
Row sitting on ball, 40 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Then we went to another area of the gym, and I did some balance stuff, standing on one foot first on the hard floor and then later on the squishy blue square.
Also an upper body exercise, pulling very gently (small range of motion) on handles, toward and away from my body. Two sets of 12, the first with the machine set at 15, the second at 20. Emilie had been aiming for 8, but I think in 12s and 15s for this.
And then I did a little bit of quadriceps stretching to finish things off.
The latest stage in gym renovation has a distinct shortage of lockers (once again, only one locker room is open, but now it's January) as well as very crowded exercise areas, again because it's January. Emilie also noted that this is likely to cost them members from the January resolution crowd; what I hadn't thought of until now is that this may affect her income, because people who are looking for trainers tend to look at the gym, and the specific branch, they're going to already.
