They didn't like me enough:

Yesterday's mail, retrieved this morning, brought a polite letter explaining that the company I was so hopeful about has hired someone else for this job.

Sigh and drat. As my mom would have said, "And what do THEY know, anyway?!"

FWIW, the two interviews I had in July both went the way yours did (tho' we didn't get as far as reference-checking) -- both places found "better fits."

Back to the drawing board (monster board?) for both of us!
