I got to the gym with time to do some cardio beforehand, but all the bikes I like (the recumbent style) were either in use or out of order; I managed about five minutes perched on a triangular seat, then went and did some weight stuff.
In the session with Emilie, we did some of the more-or-less familiar things, and some new ones. I got her to check what I was doing with the lunges, and yes, I had them basically right. Emilie was pleased that I've shown Adrian some of what she's taught me. I have bought some more sessions, so I'll be doing this into October (at the current schedule of almost every Thursday evening).
Cardio, 5:15, heart rate steady at about 100
Chest press, 50 pounds, 14, 12
Balance ~fly, 50 pounds, 2 sets of {15 with each leg forward}
Cross-body pull, 35 pounds, 15 with each hand
Stuff with the half roller, just standing, some (still not great, but better than last time); arms clasped behind me for shoulder stretch, 7 or 8 reps; lateral raise, 2.5 pounds each hand, 2 sets of 15
Biceps curls on physio ball, 10 pounds each hand, 20
[begin session with Emilie]
The familiar stuff included rolling out the IT band, and rolling out the inner thigh; a few lunges; a thing where I lie on my back with my knees up, and then extend one leg and slowly lower it, to stretch the soaz muscle. And, at the end, rowing sitting on a ball: 25 pounds, 2 sets of 15; 30 pounds, 15.
New things included sitting on the ball, feet on the ground, and walking forward (that's partly for balance/aligning with the center); something for my abs that I can't remember now but that had my feet against the wall and me lying on my back; and putting the ball against the wall behind my back, and doing a version of squats.
Some things were difficult, either just hard to deal with (I know I can't fall off the floor, but I can fall off an inflatable ball that I'm lying on) or difficult in the sense of me having trouble doing things or putting pieces together (e.g. I can do the general thing, but have trouble not putting most of my weight on one side, or with lowering my ribs the way Emilie wants).
One of the tricky things is her finding words that will make sense to me, for some of this; fortunately, she's willing to try different ways of saying the same things, and if I have no idea of what she means by instructions to do something with my ears, she'll rephrase with my chin. And sometimes I ask her to show me, either by modeling or by touching the relevant spot.
It seems slow sometimes, but I am making progress. I did a few calf exercises last night, first just standing on the streetcorner and then six or seven standing on a step; no big deal except that I hadn't tried those in a few weeks.
