Remember that weird email asking me to send my resume for an unspecified job, where we talked about what business they might really be in, off in glamorous eastern Iowa? (If not, I'll wait while you read it.)

Well, I'm in the middle of an argument (I don't think we've hit the "flame war" stage--I hope not) with someone on alt.poly who signs himself Mad_Macz [sic]. And somewhere in there, he said enough about where his alleged wealth comes from that I said something like "So you're the person who sent me anonymous email about a job at what looked like an escort service?!" He got miffed, and asked why I thought that; I explained. In the course of all this, he went on about how I had no idea what rich people might need--but he also said that "Callidus Ventures" had started as a "mercenary support" company.

I've observed that, if so, I can see why they'd choose to be vague even at the expense of people thinking they're running an escort service: after all, the latter is legal in some places, though not in their apparent headquarters in glamorous rural Iowa. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

Strikes me ...

... as an outfit (which is probably housed in someone's home office on a shoestring) started by a guy who failed at being a security guard on a college campus and now goes to SF conventions to "work security." Failing at that also, he started this venture. And failed at that. So now he's "expanded" it to be a "concierge service" -- i.e., he wants to be able to offer anything to anyone for a high amount of money because he gets so few jobs.

I would ask for a select client list. If none is ever provided, even with the excuse of privacy, it's a scam.

The odds seem overwheming that this is a scam. Have fun, but don't send him any money.
