OK, I am that kind of person: after going to the dentist, and having a crown removed and a temporary fitted, I went to the gym. On the other hand, with the lidocaine still affecting me, it wouldn't have been a good time for a nice dessert.

That's not why I get the gold star: it's that this was after two other medical appointments this week (eye doctor and dermatologist) and a bad dream last night that I had trouble putting out of my mind during the day. An anxiety/insecurity sort of thing, not fleeing from physical threat, and I am not going to describe it here because writing things helps me remember them and I don't want to remember this. Awake, I know it's ridiculous, but dreams try to create memories, and that takes a little while to get past, for me.

There will be at least two more dental appointments: apparently the only way to be sure of whether they need to replace both the crowns on my front teeth is to see whether, with the temporary crown, food still gets caught between those teeth. If not, they will measure for one replacement; if so, for two.

The worst case scenario was that if the tooth had been badly decayed, they might have had to pull it, and then replace the crown on the one next to it with a complicated thing that would do the job of both teeth and be anchored on the one good tooth.

Other than that, I was disconcerted to have the work done not by Dr. Mahindra but by his partner, but this guy also seems competent and is willing to pause as needed. And one of the pauses was to spit after the second lidocaine injection: not that I was delighted by the taste of small amounts of my own blood, but blood plus lidocaine is weirdly unpleasant.

OK, now for the boring gym stuff. I am trying to be gentle to a sore left knee (mostly, except I got distracted yesterday and this morning and discovered that I had pushed things too far too soon), so I did a bit of cardio, a few upper-body exercises, and the lower-body ones at about 1/3 the usual weight, and pushing/lifting only with the right leg, the left just sort of along for the ride.

Cardio, 10 minutes, top heart rate 125
Leg press, 120 pounds, 15 pushing with right leg only; 140 pounds, 15 with right leg
Chest press, 50 pounds, 2 sets of 12
Calf raise, 20 pounds, 2 sets of 17 using the right leg only
Wrist curls, 25 pounds, 2 sets of 15
Balance ~fly, 50 pounds, 2 sets of {15 with each foot forward}
Biceps curls, 10 pounds each hand, 2 sets of 20
Stretches

Three gold stars, I think. Multiple appointments of that kind in a single week can be very difficult.

I was just thinking, last time I was at the dentist's office, that I hadn't had to spit in years. They just vacuum everything up with a little tool.
