After too much time on the phone this afternoon (involving at least one clueless Delta employee who dropped me into hold music and lost me; I think a mistake on my part, or at least some confusion, when I called back; and a mistake by a different Delta employee, which I caught because I was feeling cautious by then), I have tickets.

I am flying out of JFK to Heathrow tomorrow early evening, which gets me to Heathrow at 8 a.m. Sunday. Returning to New York Wednesday afternoon (arriving Wednesday night). In theory, I can change the return flight without charge, since it's a bereavement fare; in practice, I have [personal profile] rysmiel arriving Thursday evening, for a relatively brief visit. I was and am looking forward to it immensely; in the circumstances, I also expect both Rysmiel and [personal profile] cattitude to be soothing after my going to comfort my mother.

I also expect to be jet-lagged for ten days or so: I will be in London just long enough to almost adjust to the time there, then fly home.

From what Mom said on the phone this morning, the funeral is likely to be Monday, but I don't know that for certain, nor have details.

I'm sorry for your mother's loss, hope all goes as well as it can for you while there, and wish you both a safe journey and a comforting visit upon your return to the States.

I suspect we're not going to be able to meet up, as we are out Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights. Oops.

Condolences to your mother, and I hope your trip is not too exhausting.

My condolences to your mother and her husband's family. I'm glad that you're able to fly over for this.

I'm sorry for your mother's loss, and pray that she may be comforted.

I can be available tomorrow, but it would be easier for me to meet up on Monday evening after 7ish. (I'll have to check whether I can move a student's lesson earlier but that should be possible). Otherwise I can meet you in central London on Tuesday during the day before 5.30pm or after 8.45pm (I have a class from 6-8.30pm, although I could theoretically skip it - it's taught by Philip, my supervisor, and he would totally understand me not being there under the circumstances. He has lots of internet friends that he hardly ever sees in person too.)

If we met in the afternoon, I know a place called inSpiral (http://www.inspiralled.net/cuisine) in Camden (a short walk from Camden Town station) that does wonderful cakes - it's entirely vegan but I've fed their cakes to happy omnivores before. They do a huge range of hippy and green teas, but this would be less ideal if you want a cup of dried leaves boiled in water with milk squirted out of a cow.

Alternatively there is a place I've been meaning to check out for months now called Bake A Boo (http://www.bake-a-boo.com/) in West Hampstead, who do normal, coeliac and vegan cakes. They are however closed on Tuesdays.

If we met in the evening, we could go somewhere in Chinatown for dinner, get Japanese-style noodles at Wagamama (http://www.wagamama.com/) (many branches), or go for Italian at Italian Graffiti on Wardour Street (opposite Richard's work).
