Even if they were an axe-murderer, they weren't in a position to do any axe-murdering of redbird. Accepting flowers from someone in a public place isn't a very risky thing to do even if the giver is creepy.
And, indeed, in those terms that's a very safe location. I can imagine someone hiring flower-distributors as a distraction for pickpockets, though nobody tried to pick my pocket yesterday, but not axe-murderers.
Accepting a home-baked cookie from strangers inside the station last year was probably a slightly higher risk, in some sense. It was a good cookie.
