This afternoon, we got an email sent to all staff, saying "company meeting right now, gather outside Justin's office" (yes, we're that short on meeting space). When he had gathered everyone, the CEO announced that he was resigning, effective at the end of the day. He said appropriate things about having enjoyed working with us, and told us that he is taking some time off, and then wants to work someplace where he will have "an ownership stake in the company." At least for now, his place is being taken by the CEO of the parent company, who said less-than-encouraging stuff about things changing in unspecified way, and the difficulties of the current economic situation.

That's all I know on the matter.

I said something to a few people, including my direct boss, about not panicking, and she observed that "Vicki never panics, and I panic every five minutes." If she does the latter, she hides it very well indeed. If I'd been going to panic this month, it wouldn't have been about unspecified changes at work.

Wow. I really hope that things settle out in a good way and don't leave you uncertain for a long time. That job continues to sound like a good place where they appreciate you.

Somehow, I can't imagine you panicking in a job situation (or under many other conditions). Discerning and speaking-out disquieting Truths that cause many other people to panic... that I can visualize. (With any luck, the vague semi-threat about "unspecified changes" will turn out to be no more than a "keep 'em worried so they won't demand anything" dodge.)

Hope the transition goes smoothly, or at least as-smoothly-as-possible, and there's not much impact.

I hope it works out as well as it possibly can for you. (I hate work-related uncertainty.)

As long as there is civilization, people will always need textbooks. If there isn't civilization, we all need to make a new plan.
