I'm looking at a job opening. It looks like something I could do, and enjoy. They want two "short" writing samples. For the kind of work, the rassef FAQ seems like an obvious choice--but is it short enough? Read into Word (not my idea--theirs--all samples to be sent as Word or WordPerfect attachments) it's 9 pages; 1+8 really, the first being all the questions, without the answres. I figure my other sample is the Salon piece, because it's both good and something I sold professionally. That is short enough.

How about giving them a few choice questions and answres, rearranged for use in the example, and a pointer to the full-blown FAQ on the WWW? Give them enough to whet their appetites, but not enough to sate them.

Short is about 1000 words, maybe 1200. The FAQ counts because it is actually a series of short writing samples.

Don't sweat it. The person who asked isn't that particular. Trust me on this one.
