Three weeks ago, I was sitting in a hospital bed, looking unhappily at a container of apple juice (because it was unpleasantly acidic) and deciding not to even try the jello. This afternoon, I went to the gym after work. (I had the doctor's clearance last week, but was waiting until working a full day at my desk job didn't wear me out.)
I reduced the weights, in some cases significantly, on a number of exercises, and skipped some things that I thought would strain my still-healing abdomen. But I have been to the gym and lifted weights. Go me!
Cardio, 7 minutes (just a warmup), top heart rate 122
Leg press, 180 pounds, 3 sets of 15. (I started by trying 140, but that was clearly too little; I'd been at 220 shortly before the surgery.)
Chest press, 50 pounds, 12
Calf raise, 70 pounds, 3 sets of 15 (I'd been ranging from 70 to 80 pounds last month)
Balance ~fly, 50 pounds, 15 with each leg forward (weight down slightly if at all, but one set instead of two)
Biceps curls, 7.5 pounds each hand, 2 sets of 20 (down from 10 or 12 pounds each)
Balance lateral raise, 2.5 pounds each hand, 2 sets of 15 (same as pre-surgery; these are the smallest weights the gym has)
Wrist curls, 3 pounds each hand, 15 with the palm up, 15 with palm down [
cattitude's suggestion, replacing a forearm exercise of the same name that uses a bar-shaped handle and a resistance machine]
