I slept weirdly...not badly, but I had this long dream in which I was trying to get home, and kept missing my flight for stupid reasons like looking at the ticket and discovering it had been three hours ago. At one point, I woke up, confirmed that Andy was there, and the view out the window was our view, and then went back to sleep, and was back trying to re-re-arrange a ticket (the second time, I'd gotten distracted) and suddenly realized my plane was leaving in 20 minutes, and I wasn't at the airport yet.

Got up, washed, quick breakfast, and headed out to the gym, in the rain.

I had a good workout, about an hour of all sorts of weight stuff, plus cardio. So that was all right.

Went to a different Chinese restaurant and had shrimp with lobster sauce, much closer to what I remembered and wanted. Did some library research, finding less than I'd hoped for (the books were there, but didn't contain what I needed). Ducked into Pret a Manger for a cup of tea, then home. (It's a sandwich shop, mostly, but a British chain, and they understand the basics of tea.)

I was going to get off the train at 181st and buy rye bread, but as I was heading for the door, I spotted Andy sitting and reading, so I went and snuck up on him instead.

So I'm home, and sleepy, and breadless. I guess I'll have to eat breadsticks. Oh, the embarrassment!

dreams

Maybe not completely an anxiety dream: a dose of anxiousness to get started on a day of employment and improvement in the mix?

Looks like a good day, anyway. Positive momentum.

Not to worry you, but Pret a Manger is partially owned by McDonalds now, which is one reason why we've not been going there. Of course we have a rather greater choice of places that understand tea!

Well, I never eat there, anyhow...

According to the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/business/newsid_1146000/1146230.stm) McDonalds (http://www.mcdonalds.com/) has bought a 33% share in Pret a Manger (http://www.pretamanger.com/). Many groups of people (see e.g. McSpotlight) think this is a problem (http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Bay/9641/boycott.html), variously because McDonalds burgers are a travesty of food (my personal opinion :-), because their chips/fries weren't always vegetarian despite being marketed as such, because of alleged social (http://www.mcspotlight.org/issues/employment/index.html) and environmental (http://www.mcspotlight.org/company/publications/environment_challenge.html) damage done by McDonalds, and because of other alleged McDonalds sins such as sweatshop working conditions (http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Boycotts/Disney_sweat_Vietnam.html) in the factories which make their promotional giveaway toys.

Difficult to know what to believe, but there you go...
