The problem with piped Christmas music in stores isn't just the short playlist. It's that everyone is using the same short playlist. In July, there's at least the chance that if store A is playing "light music," B will be doing oldies, and C some other sort of pop, and D might be playing country.
Thus, for my current purposes, Duane Reade is a much better drugstore than CVS, not because I was able to find most of what I was looking for, but because they weren't broadcasting music, or for that matter talk radio or announcements of sales, so I was willing to take a bit of time to look. (I am fairly sure that CVS stocks ibuprofen.)
[Comments including allegedly relevant song lyrics, or offering playlists, will be deleted, grumpily.]

There is one thing about holiday music that amuses me, though, which is the prevalence of Joni Mitchell's River, apparently because no one listens to the lyrics. Sure, it starts out about it being Christmas, but the actual lyric is about living in LA, compromising your life to make money, and losing your boyfriend in the process. But hey, it mentions reindeer so it must be okay!
